Over the winter holiday, I finally made the trip to Fukui from Tokyo. I took some stops in Osaka, Kyoto and Nara on the way to visit some place I still hadn’t been to. Fukui, however; had been at the top of my list for some time. There are some wonderful views in Fukui, but I had my eyes set on the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum.
This museum is huge. It took three hours to reach it from Kyoto Station using the Thunderbird, Hapi Line Fukui and a bus. Upon arriving at Fukui station, you instantly find yourself in the presence of many dinosaurs. There is art, statues and advertisements all featuring various dinosaurs. Fukui has many discoveries regarding dinosaurs as the prefecture has a vast majority of the fossil discoveries made in Japan. Some of the dinosaurs found in Fukui are the Fukuisaurus, Fukuiraptor, Fukuivenator and Fukuikititan. You can see these dinosaurs on display in the museum in both fossil and statue form.
The outside of the museum is like a real Jurassic Park as you drive past many massive dinosaur statues. In the winter, the statues have a light coat of white snow which gives an extra sense of awe. There are two buildings that you encounter at the museum. The main building and a small shop. I recommend looking at the small shop outside as there are many great items to purchase and a shorter line to eat some food.
Upon entering the main building, you will surely be amazed by the architecture of the museum as it is a wonderful and welcome surprise. After going down a lengthy escalator that can be compared to those leading to the Oedo Line in Tokyo, you will be greeted by the monstrous display of dinosaurs. There are also displays of aquatic life and animals from the far more recent Holocene epoch which includes the mighty woolly mammoth. Each display provides information in both Japanese and English. It is a fun way to see the differences in pronunciation of the names but it is also great to practice English!
These museums are always very fun to visit. I had been wanting to see the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum for a very long time and I was not disappointed. Learning about dinosaurs is not only very fun, but it’s also important. Long ago, these creatures reigned over the world for over 150 million years. That makes the entire existence of humans look like a blink of an eye. These animals don’t exist anymore and the only thing preventing their complete disappearance is the research and education of dinosaurs. It is also important to study them to understand how animals adapt and evolve over long periods of time.
Reaching the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum took me on a long journey. It was absolutely worth the trip and I recommend anyone to do their best to see it. Museums are a great way to spend the day learning and getting to know history.

私は年末年始の休暇を利用して、ついに東京から福井へ足を運びました。途中、大阪、京都、奈良に立ち寄り、まだ訪れたことのない場所を巡りました。福井は、以前からずっと最も行きたい場所でした。福井には素晴らしい景色もありますが、私の目当ては福井県立恐竜博物館でした。
この博物館は巨大です。京都駅からサンダーバード、ハピラインふくい、バスを乗り継ぎ、到着まで3時間。福井駅に着くと、すぐに多くの恐竜の存在を感じます。アート作品、像、広告など、あらゆる場所に様々な恐竜が描かれています。福井県は日本で発見された化石の大部分を占めるため、恐竜に関する発見が非常に多いのです。福井で発見された恐竜にはフクイサウルス、フクイラプトル、フクイベナトル、フクイキティタンなどがいる。博物館では化石と像の両方でこれらの恐竜を見られます。
博物館の外観は、巨大な恐竜の像が数多く並ぶ様子はまるで本物のジュラシックパークのようです。冬には像に薄く積もった雪が、さらに畏敬の念を抱かせる光景を生み出します。博物館には二つの建物があります。メインビルと小さな売店です。売店は外にあるので、ぜひ覗いてみてください。購入できる素晴らしい品々が数多く揃っており、食事をする際の行列も短めです。
メインビルに入ると、その建築様式にきっと驚かされるでしょう。素晴らしい驚きが待っています。東京の大江戸線に匹敵する長いエスカレーターを下りると、巨大な恐竜の展示が迎えてくれます。さらに、比較的新しい完新世の海洋生物や動物の展示もあり、巨大なマンモスも含まれています。各展示には日本語と英語の両方で情報が提供されています。名前の発音の違いを見るのは楽しいだけでなく、英語の練習にも最適です！
これらの博物館は訪れるたびにとても楽しいものです。福井県立恐竜博物館にはずっと行きたかったのですが、期待を裏切られませんでした。恐竜について学ぶことは非常に楽しいだけでなく、重要なことでもあります。はるか昔、これらの生物は1億5千万年以上にわたり世界を支配していました。それゆえ、人類の全存在はまさに瞬きのようなものに思えます。これらの動物はもう存在せず、完全な消滅を防いでいるのは恐竜の研究と教育だけです。また、動物が長い時間をかけてどのように適応し進化するかを理解するためにも、恐竜を研究することは重要です。
福井県立恐竜博物館にたどり着くまでには長い道のりでした。しかし、その価値は十分あり、ぜひとも足を運ぶことをお勧めします。博物館は学びながら歴史を知るのに最適な場所です。
