I have been to many theme parks in England and other countries, but this was my second theme park in Japan. Before this, I visited the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo: The Making of Harry Potter. Sadly, in South Africa we don’t have parks like these, just water parks and wildlife safaris. But Ghibli Park was something truly special!
I’ve always dreamed of seeing animation stories come to life. At Ghibli Park, I felt like I was inside a movie and an art museum at the same time. We had to get up very early, around 6:30 a.m., and leave the hotel to arrive by 7:00 a.m. so we could line up and see everything, including the shops. As soon as I walked around, I felt so happy just looking at all the beautiful details. I think many adults would feel like kids again here!
Ghibli Park is set in a real park full of trees and nature, which made it even more magical. The shops were amazing, filled with high-quality items that are useful for everyday life. I bought a cute stuffed dog named Heen from Howl’s Moving Castle, a book with Kiki’s black cat, and a makeup bag. Heen, the dog character, is very popular, and many people bought one too! When I was younger, my brother and I watched many Studio Ghibli movies together with our friends, so it felt really special to see them in real life.
One room in the park made me feel very small, it was from The Secret World of Arrietty and reminded me of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The flowers were huge, some even taller than me, and I’m 180 cm tall! We also visited a bakery that looked exactly like the one from Kiki’s Delivery Service, which was so exciting.
The park even had Howl’s Moving Castle! It moves and produces smoke sometimes, and inside, everything looks like a real house. There are many rooms, a fireplace for Calcifer, a small garden, and even a patio with a barbecue. It felt like you could really live there!
Visiting Ghibli Park was an amazing experience, and I highly recommend it if you love Studio Ghibli movies. It’s perfect for both children and adults, fun, relaxing, and full of magic! Ghibli has helped me learn more about Japanese culture and traditions, and it also helps me connect with my students. Sometimes we talk about Ghibli stories, and they are a lot like fairy tales from around the world. This helps me understand my students better, and they feel happy to share their ideas in English. Our lessons become more fun and exciting! Ghibli is not just movies, it helps us learn, share, and enjoy creative stories together.

私はイギリスや他の国で多くのテーマパークを訪れてきましたが、日本で訪れたのはこれが2つ目でした。その前は、「ワーナー ブラザース スタジオツアー東京 ‐ メイキング・オブ・ハリー・ポッター」に行きました。残念ながら、南アフリカにはこうしたテーマパークはなく、ウォーターパークや野生動物のサファリがあるだけです。でも、ジブリパークは本当に特別な場所でした！
アニメの物語が現実になるのを見るのは、ずっと夢でした。ジブリパークでは、まるで映画の中と美術館の中に同時にいるような気分になりました。ショップも含めてすべてを見られるよう、朝6時半頃には起きてホテルを出発し、7時までに到着して列に並ぶ必要がありました。園内を歩き回ると、美しい細部の一つひとつを眺めているだけで、とても幸せな気分になりました。ここに来れば、多くの大人もまた子供に戻ったような気分になれると思います！
ジブリパークは、木々や自然に囲まれた本物の公園の中にあり、それがさらに魔法のような雰囲気を醸し出していました。ショップも素晴らしく、日常生活で役立つ上質な商品がずらりと並んでいました。私は『ハウルの動く城』に登場する「 Heen （ヒン）」という名前の可愛い犬のぬいぐるみと、Kiki（キキ）の黒猫が描かれた本、そして化粧ポーチを買いました。犬のキャラクターであるHeenはとても人気で、多くの人も購入していました！小さい頃、兄と友達と一緒にスタジオジブリの映画をたくさん観ていたので、実際にその世界を見ることができて本当に特別な気分でした。
園内にあるある部屋は、まるで自分がとても小さく感じられるような空間でした。『借りぐらしのアリエッティ』のシーンで、『不思議の国のアリス』を思い出しました。花は巨大で、中には私より背の高いものもありましたが、私の身長は180cmもあるのに！『魔女の宅急便』に出てくるパン屋とそっくりな店にも行きました。本当にワクワクしました。
公園には『ハウルの動く城』もあったんです！動くし、時々煙も出るし、中はまるで本物の家のようでした。たくさんの部屋があって、 Calcifer（カルシファー）のための暖炉や小さな庭、バーベキューができるパティオまでありました。本当にそこで暮らせそうな気分になりました！
ジブリパークへの訪問は素晴らしい体験でした。スタジオジブリの映画が好きな方には、ぜひお勧めします。子供にも大人にもぴったりで、楽しく、リラックスでき、魔法のような魅力にあふれています！ジブリは、私が日本の文化や伝統についてより深く学ぶ手助けをしてくれましたし、生徒たちとのつながりを深めるのにも役立っています。時々、ジブリの物語について話すことがあるのですが、それらは世界中の童話とよく似ています。これにより、私は生徒たちをより深く理解できるようになり、生徒たちも英語で自分の考えを喜んで共有してくれます。授業がより楽しく、ワクワクするものになっています！ジブリは単なる映画ではなく、私たちが共に学び、分かち合い、創造的な物語を楽しむ手助けをしてくれるのです。
